That came in 12.4(3G)JA, according to the release notes:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/wireless/ps5678/ps6521/prod_bulle
tin0900aecd806351d9.html. Given that the software blueprint lists
12.3(8)JE(x), I would not expect to see Universal mode on the current lab.

Subject: [CCIE Wireless] 1. question about "universal" mode (Iwan
Hoogendoorn)

Hi,

I had the same problem. I used to configure universal mode just fine, but I
realized that later I was accidentally
working on 12.4 code. It deffinately depents on software version for the
1242s. I am using software version:
c1240-k9w7-mx.123-8.JEA3 how and it doesn´t work any more to make the
command: (config-if)station-role workgrou-bridge universal <mac>

I googled and found this document:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/12.4_3g_JA/configurati
on/guide/s43rf.html#wp1179361
it is a configuration guide for 12.4(3g)JA & 12.3(8)JEB and it mentiones
this command. So according to this. I am suspecting that
the universal command for the bridge comes in 12.3.(8)JEB but I am using
12.3(8)JEA3 a slightly older version.
Is this the case for you to Iwan ?

I tried to download 12.3(8)JEB but it was listed as defered on the Cisco
dowload page and therefore
not downloadable. Does anyone have it somewhere, just for lab testing ?

Group,

I am trying to configure my WorkgroupBridge in "universal mode" and all I am
getting is the "multicast mode" option.

Can someone please explain why this is?
I think it has something to do with IOS versions ? But can not figure out
starting from what IOS version this command will be available?

I currently run version "c1240-k9w7-mx.123-8.JEA3/c1240-k9w"

And this is my config output:

==========================================================
WGB#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
WGB(config)#int dot110
WGB(config-if)#station-role workgroup-bridge ?
  multicast configure multicast
  <cr>

WGB(config-if)#station-role workgroup-bridge multicast ?
  mode configure multicast mode

WGB(config-if)#station-role workgroup-bridge multicast mo
WGB(config-if)#station-role workgroup-bridge multicast mode ?
client Client-mode accepts only 3-MAC address header mulitcast
                  packets
infrastructure Infrastructure-mode accepts only 4-MAC address header
                  multicast
             packets

Can someone help me out here?

Thanks,

Iwan Hoogendoorn
