This depends on the requirements of your task (sorry to steal your sentence
Jason ;D)

But for a classic trust the phone's voice vlan tagging. At Jasons Bootcamp we
came to a
conclusion to have a wired phone port on a 65k switch like this:

!

Int f0/20

Descr wired ip phone cat65k switchport trust the phone marking.

Switchport mode access

Switchport voice vlan x

Switchport access vlan x

Mls qos trust cos

Spanning-tree porfast

Priority-queue output limit 100

!

The last line is something new that Jason wanted to put in.

We noticed when configuring the port that the default setting

was that the pc VLAN behind the phone was not trusted and therefore

everything marked as best effort or similar. I don´t remember what

command that was perhaps Jason can shed som light on this area.

Notice that this above is just a classic configuration where you are trusting
the markings

from the phone. If you wanted to do something else it would depend on the
requirements.

For example if the requirement is to change the default queue behavior. We have
SRR queue

commands on teh 3560s and WRR on the 6500s. And It seems to be a different ball
game there

to. I only have this glossary how things work on a 3560 switchport connected to
a phone:

Manual QOS best practices:

!

interface GigabitEthernet0/24

description wired phone qos "best practices" 3560 config

srr-queue bandwidth share 10 10 60 20

srr-queue bandwidth shape 10 0 0 0

 mls qos trust device cisco-phone

mls qos trust cos

!

some explanation here:

https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/630774

In short. Shape command. Takes 10% of of queue 1

And reserves bandwith at all times. But why is qeueue 3

With 60% shared bandwitdh and queue 1 with 10% "not to share"

Queue 3 is data default queue. Queue 1 is the priority queue

It would be interesting if someone knows how the cat65k

output would look like. With same results.

Hi Kristjan

Do you know the full and correct way to configure a wired ip phone port
(specially QoS) on a Cat 6500, because I ran into exactly this problem? ;)

Thanks and regards

Don´t forget that the 6500 has different QOS configuration
than the 3560. for example wrr queues instead of srr. So relying enterly on
3560 for practice
can give you a shock when you are trying to do similar stuff in 6500 :D
For example the phone port QOS settings on 6500 is different than you can
do in 3560. For example the mls qos trust device cicso-phone is not available
in the code they give in the blueprint for 6500. I think the training companies
are underestimating this stuff a littlebit. I was lucky enough to get a hold
of one spare 6500. So I connect 6500 to 3560 as the core and have another 3560
as a remote brach switch aswell. I managmed to get a good deal from Cicso with
3x 2106
WLC´s. It was a bundle with 3x 1040 aps. Unfortunatelly they don´t work with
code 4.2
but they can come in handy anywhere or later of course.

regards. Kristjan

If you have some 3560s to use for studying, you will be able to do a lot of
the studying required. There are of course some key differences, like Chad
mentioned. In addition to the ones he listed, there are ones like SVIs
being shutdown by default and switchports being L3 instead of L2 by
default. And, there are more, of course, but those are some key ones.

In regards to the WLCs used for studying. If you are studying for v1, do
not use the 5500s. As they cannot support firmware 4.2, which is on the
lab, the layout is different enough that you will lose time looking for
things or forgetting about features supported in v4.2 but not 6.0 and
higher. If your lab is after Nov 17, then feel free to use them. If you
are building your own lab, I would try to get at least one 2106. Most of
the configurations can be done on it, and it supports v4.2, as well as 7.0
if you'll need that later.

The other issue with the lab is the number of WLCs and switches that you
need to be able to configure. Most people are fine with a single WLC. The
problem is keeping track of multiple WLCs, their Mobility Domains/Groups,
which SSIDs go on which WLCs, and which LWAPs need which SSIDs and need to
join which WLCs. It is that confusion that causes a lot of people to lose
time and points in the lab. Of course, if you are able to build a lab that
has a number of switches, WLCs, and APs, that's awesome. If not, Proctor
Labs has racks for rental for studying those things that require multiple
WLCs (like Mobility Domains/Groups and Anchor/Foreign controllers) and for
getting used to working with many devices at once.
