Leigh,
On the subject of configuring Option 60 in general ... it's important to
appreciate that, at present, the IOS DHCP Server *does not* support
Option 60 (i.e. VCI's).
That is to say - the way this is *supposed* to work is, different client
types, when they request information via DHCP, will supply different
Option 60 values. The DHCP server will then, based upon the client's
Option 60 value, supply the appropriate Option 43 value.
For example, an Airespace/1000 series AP will supply an Option 60 value
of "Airespace.AP1200", while an Aironet 1240 AP will supply the value
"Cisco AP c1240". So on a DHCP server that supports VCI's properly, you
would have it do this:
If the VCI = "Airespace.AP1200"
Return ASCII "192.168.10.5,192.168.10.20" in Option 43
If the VCI = "Cisco AP c1240"
Return HEX 0xf108c0a80a05c0a80a14 in Option 43
You want to return different Option 43 values to the different client
types, because the Airespace and Aironet APs need the controller
addresses in different formats.
BUT the IOS DHCP server does not implement this. It will return the
same Option 43 value to all clients of a scope, regardless of how you
configure Option 60. (If you are interested in seeing such a feature in
IOS, track CSCsq30317, DHCP server should support per-VCI options under
separate classes.)
The IOS DHCP relay agent CAN relay requests with different option 60
values to different servers, as of 12.4(11)T.
In general, if all of the clients in a given DHCP scope want to get the
same Option 43 value, then you might as well skip fooling around with
the VCI stuff. For example, with the Windows DHCP server, rather than
going through all of the hoops of defining a separate VCI for each AP
model, you can just define a raw option 43 hex value straight away on
the scope, and be done with it.

When I try to configure Option 60 on a C6K I get an error:
6504(config)#ip dhcp pool test
6504(dhcp-config)#option 60 as
6504(dhcp-config)#option 60 ascii "Cisco AP c1240"
^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
On a c3560 it works fine:
3560(config)#ip dhcp pool test
3560(dhcp-config)#option 60 as
3560(dhcp-config)#option 60 ascii "Cisco AP c1240"
3560(dhcp-config)#
I remember working out the solution to this some time ago but I have
overwriten that part of my brain with local-eap, or certificates or
something else :)
Cheers,
Leigh

That appears to be a code issue. On a 12.2(33)SXH7 box, I don't see the
same error. Do you get the error if you configure the rest (network,
default gateway, option 43) before you configure that line?

Try another IOS version. I had the same problem on 3750s with version
12.2(46)SE, definitely a bug.
