Hi Folks

First of all, I'm quite beginner with Wireless network, although I have been
deploying autonomous AP's there and there.

So let's get started.

Like probably everyone, I'm using free options where ever I can find them, this
time, I tried to use a virtual Wireless Controller.

This is kind of neat because you can get a free demo license to support up to
200 AP's for 60 days, nice !

So, at work I had a 1242 in my warehouse, running an autonomous IOS.

I started to load the software on it, I probably did not the right thing but I
loaded the software with the archive command.

The version I used is this one : WIRELESS LAN LWAPP RECOVERY
c1240-rcvk9w8-tar.124-10b.JDA.tar.

And of course, I ran into problems :-)

First of all, when I tried to boot the AP, it would stop at the CLI prompt
after having tried all the methods to find a controller. I tried to force a
controller with the "lwapp controller ap ip address..." with no luck.

The debug lwapp command didn't give me any clue of what was wrong. The logs
eventually gave me more clues, I got the error message : maximum tried reaches
(0) (this is not the exact error message but you got the idea).

I was like what is going on, the WLC has a demo license for 200 AP's and yet it
is telling me there is no free AP license ???

As it turns out, the demo license need to be activated. It is not done while
running the setup wizard. You have to go to the Management menu > Software
activation > Licenses.
The Status of the license is EULA Not Accepted.

The trick is to change the Priority from Low to High and click on the Set
Priority and Accepting the License agreement. And, reboot the WLC to activate
the license.

After that step, the AP would eventually got further in the setup.

But wait there is more, the second problem was the certificate is rejected and
the AP would eventually been stuck in a reboot loop.

So far, I have no idea yet of to fix this problem, I'm just wondering if I
would not need to manually register the AP or forcing it to generate a new
certificate instead of the MIC, or simply changing the time and the date on the
WLC to match the validity of the MIC

Anyone has an idea ?

Thanks !

J.
