Hi guys, know this thread is a little old. But I wonder if you guys knew about this document and this issue with configuring a prefered parent ?
When you configure a preferred parent, ensure that you specify the MAC address of the actual mesh neighbor for the desired parent. This MAC address is the base radio MAC address that has the letter f as the final character. For example, if the base radio MAC address is 00:24:13:0f:92:00, then you must specify 00:24:13:0f:92:0f as the preferred parent. Yes I experienced same. The decision which Mesh AP will be chosen as parent its not based only on SNR but number of hops to the RAPas well. The algorithm also involves some offset values to?avoid frequent changes in the Mesh tree. So when you have APs very close to each other, the "ease" value to the RAP is not much worse the to the chosen preferred parent and the MAP will go back to the RAP. In other words, just because you force it, it wont choose another parent if the path to the RAP is not significantly better. The way you can make this work in the lab environment, is to have two RAPs. In this case given that the number of hops is same to a MAP, the SNR difference will have major influence on the ease value. This is how it worked for me. Hope it works for you as well. ?
