To me, it's all preference.  You should be able to do everything without
WCS.  But if you are handy with WCS, by all means use it.  Ultimately, when
you look at the things in the lab where WCS could be used to push configs
across multiple devices, there aren't enough to make a significant
difference in time savings.  Same thing with using the CLI.

Your biggest time saver will be getting good at the technologies and
knowing how to configure them quickly and accurately using your most
comfortable method.  If you are to the point where you feel solid on most
all of the blueprint, feel free to try all of the different config methods
and see which one is fastest for you.  Just don't feel like you have to
find the most optimal method to configure each different thing.  Most time
wasted is spent troubleshooting and trying to configure things that you
aren't good at.
