Yes, that could be a way to solve my needs.

I've created a powershell script that uses information from a file
(under a source control) to create the version string. It then stores
that in a simple text file which I wanted to use as an input for
FileLabeller. However, this approach doesn't work as the labeller is
executed before the code is updated from the source control and any
tasks are run.
