Well, I think I found the reason:
I played a bit more with the msbuild task and when the project file
exists, I do get artifacts and the detailed report.
This means that if msbuild cannot find the project file for any
reason, it outputs a message that is not detected as an error message
by the msbuild task and while the task fails, it does not give that
message for the report builder to use.
This is very annoying because you have a "build failed" message but no
error to go with.

Should I report this as a bug? If yes, where do I do so?
