The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), an international research
organisation with its Headquarters Laboratory in Heidelberg (Germany),
Outstations situated in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany) and Hinxton (UK),
and a Research Programme at Monterotondo (Italy) invites applications for the
following vacancy in Grenoble, France:

Postdoctoral Fellowship in computational crystallography

Job Description: The EMBL Outstation in Grenoble, France is a laboratory of
about 70 people, located in very close proximity to two unique European
facilities for research in structural biology: the nuclear reactor of the
Institut Laue Langevin [ILL], which provides high flux neutron beams, and the
European Synchrotron Radiation Facility [ESRF], which produces amongst the
world's most intense X-ray beams. The Outstation collaborates very closely with

both these facilities in building and operating beamlines for macromolecular
crystallography, in developing the associated instrumentation and techniques,
and in providing biochemical laboratory facilities and expertise to help
external visitors making measurements.

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow who will be involved
in computational and experimental studies to correct and exploit X-ray
radiation
damage. The exploitation should eventually lead to an improved success rate of
SAD experiments on weakly diffraction crystals as well as deriving phases from
native macromolecular crystals using the RIP technique. The successful
candidate will have at his/her disposal a wide range of samples for analysis
and will benefit from the close collaboration established between ESRF and
EMBL in Grenoble and within the BIOXHIT project.

Qualifications & Experience: The successful candidate should have a
background in applied mathematics or physics. The candidate is expected
to hold a PhD. Experience or interests in software development for X-ray
crystallography would be advantageous.

For project queries please contact Dr. Raimond Ravelli:

Contract: A contract of 2 year's duration will be offered to the successful
candidate.

Closing Date: 30 September 2005

To apply for this position, candidates should email a detailed CV,
with concise description of research experience and the names and
addresses of at least two referees quoting ref. no VN/05/PD/19 in
the subject line to [EMAIL PROTECTED] .
