Protein crystallographer
The Department of Structure and Biophysical Chemistry is looking for a highly
motivated and experienced protein crystallographer to support drug discovery
projects within Diabetes Research.
The department combines several biophysical and structural biology techniques
to characterise proteins and interactions of proteins with their ligands. Our
research is applied in areas such as protein formulation, insulin analogue
design, improvement of fermentation yield, receptor interaction, and structure
based drug design. We are equipped with robotic crystallisation and state of
the art X-ray crystallography equipment and have rapid access to synchrotron
facilities.

Challenges
Working within multidisciplinary project teams, you will be responsible for
crystallisation, data collection and structure determination of protein ligand
complexes and novel insulin analogues. You will also be assisting to improve
our work flow and methodology and maintain our crystallography setup.
We expect you to be able to plan and perform your own experiments. The work
requires extensive interaction with protein biochemists and medicinal chemists.

Qualifications
You have a Ph.D. and postdoctoral training in Protein Crystallography.
Knowledge and experience in all aspects of protein crystal structure
determination, from protein crystallisation to refinement, is required.
Experience with co-crystallisation of protein-ligand complexes is highly
desirable, as is experience in working with project teams to translate
crystallographic results to the development of novel drugs against diabetes.
Excellent technical writing, presentation, communication, and organisational
skills are essential.
