Alex McPherson asked me to post this message for him. Best regards, Aaron

For research purposes, I am collecting reports and incidences of mysterious small molecules ( or larger ) that have been unexpectedly observed in electron density maps. I would like to know of these occurrences even if the identification is not definitive, but only speculative. I am not interested in molecules which are of obvious biological relevance or which have been intentionally added to the mother liquors ( such as coenzymes, inhibitors, essential ions, biological effectors, etc. ). I am interested in cataloging other kinds of molecules that unintentionally became bound to the macromolecule in the crystal, or which form intermolecular, lattice interactions in the crystal. I have in mind things such as buffer molecules, sugars, cyogens, peptide fragments, oligosaccharides, oligonucleotides, reducing agents, detergents, precipitating agents, or anything else that might have been present, or somehow crept into the mother liquor. I would be grateful for a short note ( or a reference if you had the courage to publish it ) to [EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

Thanking you in advance.

Alex McPherson
