Inc. is a leader in the discovery and development of novel small molecule
pharmaceuticals to treat human disease. Since operations commenced in June
2001, Plexxikon has applied its proprietary platform technology to identify and
build a portfolio of product opportunities for therapeutic indications in
metabolic disorders, cardiovascular disease, inflammation and oncology. We are
seeking a highly motivated individual to join our structural biology
department. The research associate will perform high-throughput
co-crystallization experiments to support our scaffold based drug discovery
projects. The responsibilities include preparation of protein samples in
complex with small molecule inhibitors, setting up crystallization screens and
optimization trials, analyzing crystallization results and design follow up
experiments with the help of the supervisor, preparation of crystals for
synchrotron data collection, working with crystallization robots, data entry to
database. This position requires a BS in Biochemistry or related field and 1-2 years of
industry experience. The successful candidate must possess excellent
organizational and communication skills. Must be able to maintain lab notebook
and keep a safe lab environment. The ability to effectively interact with
colleagues, and the ability to independently plan and direct own assignments to
completion are essential. Experience in using robotics for performing
crystallization experiments and analyzing results is a plus. To learn more
