<x-tad-smaller>The Institute of Cancer Research (a College of the University of London) is a world-class cancer research organization with HEFCE RAE ratings of international excellence across all of its research programmes. In partnership with The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, we form the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, dedicated to research that extends from epidemiology, genetics and molecular biology, through drug discovery and development, to cancer diagnosis and patient treatment. This makes us uniquely placed to work towards our vision that people may live their lives free from the fear of cancer as a life threatening disease.</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>

<x-tad-smaller>A Post-Doctoral position is available within Dr Richard Bayliss’ group studying protein complexes involved in mitotic regulation. The aim of the project is to investigate the mechanisms of Aurora-A kinase activation using a combination of biochemical, structural and cell biological approaches. Structures of kinase-activator complexes will be solved using X-ray crystallography and this detailed knowledge used to study the regulation of the kinase </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>in vitro</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller> and </x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>in vivo</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>. Aurora-A is an important mitotic regulator and human oncoprotein that is implicated in a high proportion of colorectal and breast cancers. This project will provide the structural and mechanistic detail to accelerate rational drug design targeting Aurora-A in cancer.
</x-tad-smaller><x-tad-smaller>The successful applicant will hold a PhD, or be close to completing their PhD studies, in biochemistry / molecular biology and X-ray crystallography. Experience with molecular biology, protein expression, purification and crystallisation, and X-ray crystallography is essential and knowledge of cell-cycle regulation and/or protein kinases would be an advantage.
