GROUP LEADER IN STRUCTURAL CELL BIOLOGY AT THE GRENOBLE OUTSTATION OF EMBL

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory, EMBL is an international research organisation with its Headquarters Laboratory in Heidelberg, Germany and four additional Units in Hinxton (the European Bioinformatics Institute, EBI), Grenoble, Hamburg, and Monterotondo. EMBL is searching for a Group Leader to lead an independent research group in its Grenoble Outstation.

Commencing Date: From March 2006 (open to negotiation)
Closing date for application: 30 November 2005 extended to 15th December

Job Description: The Scientific Programme of EMBL emphasizes experimental analysis at multiple levels of biological organisation, from the molecule to the organism, as well as Computational Biology, Bioinformatics and Systems Biology. The in-house research program of the EMBL Grenoble Outstation focuses on the structural molecular biology of complexes involved in eukaryotic cellular processes (www.embl.fr). This activity is supported by extensive technical platforms for interdisciplinary structural biology run under the umbrella of the Partnership for Structural Biology (psb.esrf.fr) together with other on-site international (ESRF, ILL) and national (IBS, IVMS) laboratories. These include high throughput protein expression and crystallization, insect and mammalian cell culture, cryo-electron microscopy, NMR and in particular, excellent access to the world-leading synchrotron and neutron scattering facilities of the ESRF and ILL. In addition, close interactions with the other units of EMBL in Heidelberg, Hamburg, Hinxton and Monterotondo are strongly encouraged (www.embl.org).

We wish to recruit a dynamic, independent group leader with demonstrated excellence in structural, molecular or cell biology on complexes and a desire to work in a multidisciplinary structural biology environment. We are particularly keen to complement the existing emphasis on molecular structural biology, notably using macromolecular crystallography, with someone working on more cellular aspects of structural biology using techniques such as characterization of complexes in cells by TAP-tagging, RNAi or i/n vivo/ imaging. However candidates planning to use more traditional methods are also encouraged to apply.

Further information can be obtained from Dr. Stephen Cusack (tel 0033(0)476207238, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>) and Dr. Christoph Müller (tel 0033(0)476207561, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED])

Qualifications and Experience: Applicants should have a Ph.D. and a strong record of achievement in structural, molecular or cell biology.

Contract: A contract of 5 years' duration at grade 9 will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of the review. EMBL is an inclusive, equal opportunity employer offering attractive conditions and benefits appropriate to an international research organisation.
