Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in Protein Crystallography, in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology / ARC Centre for Structural and Functional Microbial Genomics, Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. The work will focus primarily on structural studies on microbial virulence factors as well as proteins and complexes important for the innate immune response. Recent PhD graduates with a background in protein crystallography are encouraged to apply.

The Protein Crystallography Unit is equipped with state of the art instrumentation, including Rikagu RU-3HBR generator, OSMIC mirrors and an R-AXIS IV++ detector. The unit uses a Cartesian Honeybee Robot to establish trials and crystallisation “vaults” for automated tray analysis will be established in 2006. The Monash high throughput protein production unit (including Tecan robotics and a 12 module ÄKTAxpress for parallel purification) is routinely used for expression trials / automated purification. The laboratory is situated next door to the Australian Synchrotron, Boomerang, which will come online in 2007.

Melbourne is a vibrant multicultural international city with outstanding food, wine, arts and culture that has consistently been voted the world’s most liveable city.
