New, significantly improved, versions of shelxc and shelxe for Linux, MacOSX and Windows and the documentation file fastphas.pdf (strongly recommended reading for anyone planning to do experimental phasing with these programs) are now available on my server. Registered SHELX users who can remember the password may download them without further formalities (otherwise please contact me). shelxe now includes the notorious 'free lunch algorithm'. There are no expiry dates and the complete SHELX is available as OPEN SOURCE.

I am not sure what to do about the executables for other operating systems, for example my colleague who kindly allowed me to compile on his SGI has now thrown it out. Maybe I should abandon SGI and Digital UNIX, anyone who is still using them could easily compile the programs themselves, e.g.

f95 shelxc.f -o shelxc
f95 shelxe.f -o shelxe

which does however require a Fortran-95 compiler (f90 would probably also work). So my questions:

1. Is anyone still using SGI and Digital Unix systems (or indeed any systems other than Linux, Windows and MacOSX)?

2. If so, are they willing and able to compile the programs themselves?

Happy New Year!
George
