In the Molecular Pharmacology Unit all work on assay development, screening, and molecular pharmacology testing from 'hit' to 'clinical candidate' is carried out. The candidate will work in the Biotechnology Section and will collaborate closely with colleagues in the Molecular Pharmacology Unit as well as in other research departments, such as Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Design and Informatics. In the Biotechnology Section work on assay development, protein production and protein crystallography up to the collection of data sets is carried out, for drug targets in the fields of immunology, fertility, oncology, CNS and osteoporosis. Responsibilities The candidate will set up a project in the area of protein kinases for oncology and immunology, and study structure-function relationships by use of site-directed mutagenesis. The Research Scientist will be responsible for protein production, purification and crystallization, followed by collection of datasets on the in-house X-ray beam for his/her own project, and scientific and practical input is expected in related projects. In addition, he/she will be involved in the implementation of technological innovation in the field of crystallization. Scientific skills should be excellent, while the suitable candidate also shows self-drive and has well-developed communication skills. Requirements A Ph.D. in biology or chemistry, with experience in protein crystallography is required for this position. Experience in protein expression and purification is an advantage.
