Post-doctoral fellowship in the group of Dr. Stephen Cusack at EMBL Grenoble Structural Studies of proteins involved in RNA maturation A post-doctoral fellowship is available as soon as possible in the group of Dr. Stephen Cusack at the EMBL Grenoble Outstation to work on structural studies of proteins involved in RNA maturation in eukaryotes.Previous work has led to the structure determination of a protein sub-complex involved in 5' processing of mRNA. The project will continue with structure-based functional studies, the search for small molecule inhibitors and structure determination of the full complex for which preliminary crystals have been obtained. The successful candidate will have technical expertise in molecular biology, protein expression and purification, crystallization and protein crystallography and ideally also in enzyme assays and /in vitro/ RNA transcription. A strong motivation to work in the area of RNA metabolism is important. The in-house research program of the EMBL Grenoble Outstation ( http://www.embl.fr <http://www.embl.fr/> ) focuses on the structural molecular biology of complexes involved in eukaryotic cellular processes This activity is supported by extensive technical platforms for interdisciplinary structural biology run under the umbrella of the Partnership for Structural Biology ( http://psb.esrf.fr/ ) together with other on-site international (ESRF, ILL) and national (IBS, IVMS) laboratories. These include high throughput protein expression and crystallization, insect and mammalian cell culture, cryo-electron microscopy, NMR and in particular, excellent access to the world-leading synchrotron facilities of the ESRF.
