| Hi All, Sorry for a slightly off-topic post. As many people who calculate composite omit maps in CNS Solve know, they can often take a long time to complete (long being a relative term, of course). I've written an application for Mac that will allow for distributing a single composite omit map calculation over multiple CPU's on a single system (Dual CPU or Quad CPU) or over an XGrid if you have one setup. For XGrid it doesn't need to be a dedicated XGrid cluster it will work with any ad hoc cluster (e.g. one that does cycle scavenging on idle systems). The methods employed have already been tested on a several structures here, but the application framework and GUI have not been tested as extensively. The program has already been seeded to some beta testers but I would like to get a few more if possible. The current requirements for the application are: OS X - 10.4.3 or higher (it will not work on Panther 10.3) At least 512 MB of RAM. Access to a multiprocessor system or an XGrid. A willingness to report back problems you encounter, constructive criticism or offer suggestions for improvement/features. A test data set and brief tutorial are included to get you started. If you have access to a bunch of desktop systems, don't have an XGrid setup, but would like to set one up, I can offer some guidance on that as well (in exchange for testing the functionality of the program etc...). If you are interested in trying out the program (and in turn helping me out), please send me an email directly (for my records please include the computing environment you can test the program in as well, processor type (PPC or Intel), Dual, Quad, XGrid, RAM etc...). Again sorry for the off-topic post. Thanks, Dave David W. Gohara, Ph.D. Harvard Medical School 617-432-3839 (p) 617-432-4360 (f) |
