Permanent Research Engineer Position in Scientific Computing:

"Valorisation of Quantum Chemistry Softwares" at the Laboratory
of Quantum Chemistry and Physics,Toulouse, France

Deadline to submit : april 5th 2006 (position number 57 -
                                     see the cnrs website)

A permanent Research Engineer position in scientific computating
is available in the Laboratory of Quantum Chemistry and Physics
of Toulouse, France (Director N. Halberstadt), for the valorisation
of quantum chemistry softwares. It is open to all nationalities.
The Laboratory of Quantum Chemistry and Physics of Toulouse
(http://www.lpq.irsamc.ups-tlse.fr) is the largest theoretical
chemistry laboratory in France. An important fraction of its 24
permanent researchers'activity is the design, development, and
programming of new methods in theoretical chemistry, the other
research activities being also theoretical: quantum chemistry for
the d and f elements, theoretical study of extended systems and
magnetism, the modelization of clusters and dynamics. Two informaticians
are responsible for the large computer facilities [one parallel
64-Opteron processor cluster, two scalar clusters (one with 22 Opteron
processors and one with 16 Intelprocessors), and a number of individual
work stations... ] and network.

The mission of the engineer will be the valorisation of the quantum
chemistry software packages designed and developed in the laboratory.
This includes the following activities:

 Finalisation of the computer codes
- Interface with the main international computer codes in quantum chemistry
- Adaptation to different computers
- Optimisation for both scalar and parallel architectures, benchmarks

Transfer to (national and international) users
- Participation to the diffusion of the quantum chemistry softwares
  (manuals, web site availability)
- Participation to the setting up of reference databanks obtained
with the softwares developed in the laboratory
- Formation and training of users
- Development of graphical interfaces for an easier use
- Set up and maintenance of an electronic hot-line.

The successful candidate will have a double expertise in Quantum Chemistry
at the Ph.D. level (a thesis in a related field could be accepted) and in
Scientific Computing (Master or equivalent). Scientific computer
programming experience is essential. The candidate should master the
FORTRAN, C, C++, and object programming languages, as well as the
UNIX/LINUX operating systems. An experience in program parallelisation
will be strongly appreciated. A good knowledge of spoken and written
English is necessary. A basic knowledge of spoken French would be
valuable. Finally, one particularly important criterion will be the
commitment of the applicant to interact with researchers and users, and
a strong motivation for team work.

How to apply:

The recruitment is a competitive procedure (concours externe) of the
French national research center (CNRS)
