directly to him: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Postdoctoral position in structural analysis and molecular modelingThe Medical Structural Genomics of Pathogenic Protozoa (MSGPP) Project at the University of Washington, Seattle, is determining crystal structures of targeted proteins from major global pathogens. The crystal structures are preferably solved in the presence of known inhibitors or small molecular “fragments”. The pathogens under study are of major importance to human health; these include, Plasmodium falciparum and vivax, Toxoplasma gondii, Trypanosoma cruzi and brucei, Leishmania major and infantum, Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, and Cryptosporidium parvum. The structures determined will be used for experimental drug screening as well as for virtual screening of potential inhibitors. The ultimate goal is to arrive at target protein complexes with ligands that might form the basis for medicinal chemistry efforts. Job description: The post-doctoral fellow will analyze the solved structures to identify and characterize key functional sites in the proteins; discover by computational methods, such as molecular docking, ligands that bind the key sites; design small focused compound libraries from crystallographically verified initial ligand binding modes, in dialogue with synthetic chemists. Excellent software and hardware is available. Qualifications: Required – Ph.D. in computational chemistry or protein x-ray crystallography. Strongly desired - Experience with computational methods of protein structure analysis and molecular docking; familiarity with Linux, scripting languages, protein sequence databases and tools. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team are critical. The position is immediately available. Contact: Christophe Verlinde, Ph.D. E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] CV, and 3 references are required. The University of Washington is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer. -- Jan Abendroth Howard Hughes Medical Institute and University of Washington 1959 NE Pacific Street, K-426 Box 357742 Seattle, WA-98195 phone: +1-206-616-4510 fax: +1-206-685-7002 |
