Post doc positions in Macromolecular crystallography

Diamond Light Source Ltd is currently constructing the largest scientific facility to be built in the UK for 30 years. The Diamond synchrotron light source, located at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire, will consist of three accelerators - a 100MeV linac, a 3 GeV booster synchrotron and a 562m circumference 3 GeV storage ring - and an initial complement of 7 beamlines which will be operational for users from 2007. The Rutherford Appleton Laboratory also houses ISIS and the Central Laser Facility, promoting opportunities for multi-disciplinary research projects.

The positions will be based on state-of-the art macromolecular crystallography beamlines which will be commissioned during 2006 and begin operation at the start of 2007. These MAD beamlines will be equipped with tiled array CCD detectors and robotic sample changers to allow rapid collection of high quality macromolecular crystallography data. Particular emphasis is being placed on ensuring that the beamline control software is robust and user friendly.

Post docs will be part of the macromolecular crystallography beamline team and work in the following areas:

  • Develop in-house research projects. Projects are available within the areas of
    • Macromolecular Crystallography
    • Software development
    • Instrumentation
  • Initial testing and setup of beamlines before beginning of operations - in particular the experimental equipment
  • Collaborate with the user community to successfully run the first experiments and subsequently support the operation of the beamline
