The inital problem was that the CCP4 v 5.2 installation that had worked well for months mysteriously stopped, giving instead an error box with about a dozen lines of text beginning 'list element in quotes followed by "C:\Program" instead of space while executing'. The problem did not resolve upon removal of CCP4 v 5.2 and replacement with 6.0. Several users suggested that the spaces in the TCL installation directory name were a problem (making the question not so much "why did it stop working" but rather "why did it ever work"). I uninstalled CCP4 and TCL (which was version 8.4.4 already, BTW). I restarted the computer. I installed TCL 8.4.4 and BLT in C:\Tcl as Administrator. I restarted the computer. I installed CCP4 v. 6 as Administrator. I restarted the computer. Result: CCP4i gives the same error message when I log in as myself, but will run when I log in as Administrator. The same goes for CCP4mg. A check of the environment variables revealed that the CCP4 variables were only set up for Administrator. I manually entered the variables for my username, then logged out and back in. ---> same error. I can live with this situation, but I've heard it's not a good idea to use Administrator as one's day-to-day login. Anybody have other ideas? Sincerely, Anna Gardberg
