I remember from many years ago worrying about peroxides in dioxane which we were using, distilling it, freezing under N2 etc. It showed peroxides with the KI test, but I found that when I added it to the buffer solution (imidazole) the brown colour disappeared, presumably because the peroxides oxidised the buffer before they had a chance to damage the protein. After that I stopped worrying.
