Hi,
You need to combine the "sphere" and "stick" representations to get a ball
and stick look. Use show spheres AND show sticks on the selection that you
want to make look like ball and sticks. Then decrease the size of the
spheres using "set sphere_scale, 0.X" where X is a number like 2 or 3. Also
find more detailed info on making representations in PyMOL from the PyMOL
wiki, which is an excellent resource for users:

There you can search on commands like "show" or "set" or any command to
