Scientific Programmer/Software Engineer

We are looking to recruit up to two highly self motivated Scientific
Programmers/Software Engineers to work in collaboration with diamond
scientific staff, e-Science experts and various science groups, spending
at least one day a week at associate's sites to develop an integrated
e-Science solution into data acquisition and analysis software. This
will also involve assisting in the coordination between these groups to
implement and where required, define an infrastructure to meet
requirements of Diamond users and staff. 

You should have a relevant degree or equivalent qualification, with the
ability and initiative to locate and deal with problems effectively
through to completion. Good interpersonal, communication and
presentation skills are essential as is the capability to interact and
work successfully with staff at all levels and within a small
multidisciplinary team. Experience in distributed computing, exploiting
or delivering e-Science technologies for a scientific discipline is a
must. You should also be proficient in modern programming languages such
as Java, C, C++ and Python.

Diamond Light Source Ltd, a new joint venture company, is currently
constructing the largest scientific facility to be built in the UK for
30 years. The Diamond synchrotron light source, located at Chilton, will
consist of three accelerators - a 100MeC linac, a 3 Ge V booster
synchrotron and a 562m circumference 2 Ge V storage ring - and an
initial complement of 7 beamlines which will be operational for users
from 2007.
