POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF MULTI-PROTEIN COMPLEXES

Job Description: A position for a crystallographer at the post-doc level is available in Dr. Kirill Alexandrov’s research group at the Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Physiology (Dortmund, Germany). The lab is focused on the development of new approaches for the production and biophysical analysis of posttranslationally modified proteins and multiprotein complexes. As the primary model system we use the molecular machinery regulating intracellular vesicular traffic with an emphasis on RabGTPase interacting and modifying proteins. As part of the new Systems Biology program we are currently completing establishment of automated platform for production of proteins and proteins complexes in high-throughput format. Details of ongoing research of the laboratory and recent publications can be found under http://www.mpi-dortmund.mpg.de/departments/dep3/alexandr_rak/01/01.html

We are seeking a post-doctoral candidate who in conjunction with other scientists of the institute would supervise a group of initially two technicians and an engineer to develop new approaches for expressing proteins and analyzing their interactions using automated high-throughput protein expression and analysis. Close collaboration with structural biology and bio-and chemistry units will be a must.

Qualifications & Experience: Candidates should hold a Ph.D. and be able to demonstrate excellence in molecular biology, protein expression and purification. Experience in high-throughput methods, directed evolution, protein engineering and laboratory automation is preferred and an interest in structural biology is very welcomed.

The position is for 2 years initially. To apply, please send your CV together with other relevant documents and the names and contact details of three referees. Closing date is the 15th of January 2007.
