Research Associate and Assistant Positions in Biophysics and Structural Biology The Center for Structural Molecular Biology (CSMB), Environmental Sciences Division and the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) (http://www.ornl.gov) have immediate openings for a research assistant and three post-doctoral research associates. Applications are sought from highly creative and motivated individuals who will join interdisciplinary teams to work in the following areas; 1) Research Assistant: Molecular Biology and Protein Chemistry Expression and purification of recombinant proteins from bacterial and eukaryotic sources. Expertise with recombinant DNA techniques including PCR, DNA cloning, mutagenesis, and protein expression is required. The position requires excellent organizational skills and an ability to work independently. M.S. or B.S. in biochemistry, molecular biology or a related discipline is required. Contact: Dr Dean Myles, ORNL, P.O. Box 2008 Oak Ridge, TN 37831-6142, USA. Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2). Post-Doctoral Research Associate: Protein Crystallography We seek a protein crystallographer to work on the high resolution x-ray and neutron analysis of enzyme systems. The successful candidate will have experience in all aspects of protein crystallography. Experience in protein crystallization would be an asset. Contact Dr Dean Myles ORNL, P.O. Box 2008 Oak Ridge, TN 37831-6142, USA. Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] 3). Post Doctoral Research Associate: Membrane-Protein Interactions We seek a biophysicist/biochemist to work on neutron reflectivity analysis of the interactions of biological macromolecules with membranes and mineral surfaces. A Ph.D. completed within the last 5 years in Physical Sciences (biochemistry, physics, environmental chemistry) is required. The candidate should be proficient in conducting laboratory experiments. Previous work in either neutron or x-ray scattering is desirable. Contact Dr. Liyuan Liang, ESD, ORNL, PO Box 2008, MS-6250, Oak Ridge, TN 37831-6250. E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] 4) Post Doctoral Research Associate: Bio-mimetic Scaffolds and Membranes We seek a biophysicist/biochemist or synthetic chemist to work on development of functionalized polymeric scaffolds and their incorporation into bio-mimetic membranes. The ideal candidate will have experience in surface chemistry in such areas as the reaction of amino acids and oligopeptides in solution with deposited surface layers, protein-surface interactions, and synthesis of oligopeptides. Previous experience in either neutron or x-ray scattering is desirable, but not required. Contact Dr. John Ankner, Neutron Scattering Sciences Division, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, PO Box 2008, MS-6475, Oak Ridge, TN 37831. E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Applications with curriculum vitae, a brief description of research interests and contact details for three academic referees should be sent directly to the contact(s) listed above, before December 10th 2006. The postdoctoral program is open to all qualified individuals without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, national origin, physical or mental disability, or status. ORNL, a multi-program research facility managed by UT-Battelle, LLC, for the U.S. Department of Energy, is an equal opportunity employer committed to building and maintaining a diverse work force.
