Hi,

A post-doctoral position for structural studies related to actin-cytoskeleton dynamic is available at the Laboratory of Structural Enzymology and Biochemistry (LEBS), CNRS, Gif-sur-Yvette, France, close to Paris. Starting date: February 2007. CNRS funding is for three years. Annual gross salary: 25 800 euros.

Job description
The highly dynamic polymerization of ATP-actin is essential for a variety of cellular processes, including formation of membrane protrusions required for example for cell migration or endocytosis. The research proposal explores the structural mechanisms supporting motile processes by site-directed actin assembly and regulation of actin cytoskeleton dynamic. These structural studies are pursued within an internationally renowned group on actin cytoskeleton dynamics in tight combination with dynamic analysis using biochemical and biophysical methods (<http://www.lebs.cnrs-gif.fr/carlier/carliereng.html>www.lebs.cnrs-gif.fr/carlier/carliereng.html). We target the structure of actin in functional complexes with actin-nucleators such as processive formins [Romero et al. (2004) Cell. 119, 419-29] or with WASP-homology 2 (WH2) domain containing proteins such as the G-actin-sequestering thymosin Beta4 [Hertzog M. et al. (2004) Cell 117, 611-23]. First stable constructs are now available for crystallization and biochemical studies and need to be further extended.

The laboratory provides state-of-the-art equipment for protein expression, purification and characterisations by biochemical and biophysical methods. Crystallization robotics and X-ray diffraction equipment are available in-house and we have regular access to synchrotron sources.

Skills required
The successful candidate should have a strong experience in molecular biology, protein expression and purification with basis in biochemistry. Basic experience in crystallography would be an advantage.

Location
The laboratory is located in a very pleasant green setting within the large CNRS campus of Gif-sur-Yvette which is 40 mn away from Paris via local railway (RER B). We benefit from a dynamic scientific surrounding, in close vicinity to both Orsay University, the Atomic Energy Commissariat (CEA) center of Saclay and the SOLEIL synchrotron (5 min away).
