The following opportunity is available at our U.S. Pharmaceutical
Headquarters in Nutley, NJ:

Associate Principal Scientist, Macromolecular Structure Group

At Roche, the utilization of protein structure is highly integrated into
our drug discovery efforts. Consequently, we have a very active and
productive X-ray crystallography group within Discovery Chemisty. We are
seeking a motivated and enthusiastic candidate to join this group. The
primary function of this scientist will be the crystallization of
proteins with and without small molecule ligands, in preparation for
data collection. Additional responsibilities include performing
molecular biology experiments to design and prepare multiple constructs
in parallel for new targets and targets that have proven reluctant to
crystallize. This position actively interacts with a broad team of
medicinal chemists, computational chemists, and biologists.

The successful candidate will possess a Masters degree, or a Bachelors
degree with at least two years of relevant research experience.
Qualifications include being well-versed in state-of-the-art molecular
biology techniques, specifically the preparation of multiple clones in
parallel using tagged expression systems. Experience with such systems
in a crystallography lab setting is a plus. The ideal candidate will
also have experience in protein crystallization utilizing both manual
and automated systems. Strong communication and interpersonal skills
are a must.
