Dear all,

It is an announcement of a beta-release of an automatic molecular replacement system - BALBES.
It is available from: www.ysbl.york.ac.uk/~fei/balbes

There are tar files for Linux, MacOS (G4/G5) and MacOS (intel).
There are instructions how to install and use the system.

The system takes sequence and data (mtz or cif) files to solve molecular
replacement problem. It finds template structures using sequence alignement with their domain and multimeric organisations and tries several protocols. It does some analysis of the data (twinning, psuedotranslation etc) and uses them if necessary. (Twinning is not used at the moment but will be in future)

There is also a ccp4i interface. There are instructions how to add it into
the existing ccp4i.

Currently the system is able to solve easy to medium cases.

Please try and let us know your suggestions. (For examples protocols that
worked for you.) Please send emails with suggestions and problems to
