Please would you bring this to the attention of any suitable candidates looking for a postdoc position. Thanks, John
An opportunity exists to join a team studying proteins involved in homologous DNA recombination in the group of Dr John Rafferty in the Krebs Institute, Dept Mol.Biol. & Biotech. at Sheffield University. Funding is available immediately from the BBSRC for a three-year postdoctoral position. In particular our group has been studying the resolvase enzymes that cleave Holliday junctions and has determined structures of three different resolvase enzymes and a DNA complex and is focussing on Holliday junction complexes. Investigation will mainly involve X-ray crystallography but other biophysical techniques such as SPR, ITC and NMR will be employed when appropriate. The new group member will need to have excellent spoken and written English and be able to work well as part of a team alongside PhD students. A strong background in structural biology is required and molecular biology & macromolecule purification skills are highly desirable. Sheffield is the UKs fourth largest city and the greenest, liveliest and friendliest. It is a vibrant centre that is home to sport (football, athletics, swimming, rugby, ice-hockey, basketball etc), music (Arctic Monkeys, Jarvis Cocker and Lindsay String Quartet) and the arts (renowned Crucible and Lyceum Theatres) as well as having a strong history in engineering and science. Beautiful and easily accessible countryside surrounds a city where the cost of living is reasonable and the friendly population have a good sense of humour.
