Engineer (fixed term contract for 2 years)

Responsible for setting up and developing a protein production and crystallisation facility

Environment

The Structural Enzymology and Biochemistry Laboratory (LEBS) is part of the Gif sur Yvette CNRS campus, 40mn from Paris by local train. Using biochemistry, molecular biology, biophysics and X-ray crystallography, the LEBS analyses fundamental mechanisms of protein- protein and protein-RNA interactions that govern major cellular functions, and applies its research to the discovery of molecules of therapeutic interest. Most of our research work requires highly purified and soluble protein in large quantities. A screening facility for protein cloning, production and crystallisation is being set up. Robotised equipment has already been purchased (pipetting and visualisation robots; see http://www.lebs.cnrs-gif.fr/ plateau_technique.html). This facility will first be open to the laboratory groups then to external users among which the local campus laboratories and the nearby SOLEIL synchrotron.

Job description

Under the supervision of a research engineer and in collaboration with users from the LEBS, he/she will setup the facility. His/her mission will be

- design and validation of standardised protocols for the protein cloning and production station

- design and validation of improved protocols for the crystallisation robots

- setup the facility in the Laboratory

- define and apply quality criteria

Skills required

The qualified individual will have a B.S./M.S. in biological science and must be a team player with good communication skills.

- experience in molecular biology and protein biochemistry is required

- experience with protein crystallisation desirable

- knowledge of robotics applied to biotechnology a plus

Deadline for application: September 15 2007.
