The Paul Scherrer Institute is a centre for multi-disciplinary research and one of the world’s leading user laboratories. With its 1300 employees it belongs as an autonomous institution to the Swiss ETH domain and concentrates its activities on solid-state research and materials sciences, elementary particle physics, energy and environmental research as well as biology and medicine.

The Swiss Light Source (SLS) is one of the most advanced radiation sources worldwide and operates two high performance undulator beam lines for protein crystallography and a state-of-the-art bending magnet beamline. The Macromolecular Crystallography group is involved in several aspects of protein crystallography including the design and construction of new beamline components as well as various structural biology projects.
We are looking for a

       Postdoctoral Fellow

         Computational Crystallography

/Your tasks/

The PILATUS 6M pixel detector is the first large area, high dynamic range counting pixel detector for protein crystallography. In order to exploit its unique characteristics for the collection of optimal data, we intend to develop novel crystallographic software to optimise the entire process from strategy to scaling and merging, in close collaboration with our international partners. In the first phase of this process, you will be responsible for the development of a new strategy programme, which takes the specific properties of the pixel detector into account. A further goal is the development of a profile-fitting algorithm to take advantage of the outstanding spatial and angular resolution of this detector.

/Your profile/

You hold a Ph.D. degree in chemistry, biology or physics, and have experience in either crystallographic software development or related computational methods in structural biology. If you are a good team player with fine communication skills and sense of responsibility, this position will offer a great opportunity for you to develop your research career in an exciting and highly multidisciplinary environment.
