You can fuse your protein of interest with Azurin (a low molecular weight protein from P. aeruginosa, which express very well in E. coli), add copper and your protein-of-interest-azurin fusion will be bright blue (lmax= ca. 600 nm). Easy to look at during purification and (peraphs) during crystallization. It worked ones for me!
