Research Assistant II position available at Vanderbilt in our Biochemistry Department:
Under limited supervision, set up, conduct experiments, and continue research projects following protocols including the appropriate recording of data and reporting of standard or variant results. Assist in other laboratory and research functions. Key Functions and Expected Performances: * Bacterial culture preparation in flasks and fermentor * Protein purification and characterization * Expression and solubility studies * Media preparation, buffer preparation and glass wash * Preparation and maintenance of chromatographic columns and purification systems, trouble shooting and placing service request * Keeping inventory of chemicals and reagents, waste management, MSDS inventory, ordering, writing up protocols and reports Minimum Requirements: This position requires a Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, biology or a related field and minimum of 24 months related experience. The ideal candidate should be courteous, responsible, organized, hard-working, able to multi-task and communicate efficiently. The successful candidate will be trained initially but will work independently or with limited supervision on assigned duties thereafter. Preferred Experience: * 0-5 years in a research laboratory performing basic laboratory skills such as making buffers, media and handling basic lab equipments such as pipettes, centrifuges, shakers, UV/VIS spectrophotometer, pH meter and sonicator. * Experience with standard curve analysis, SDS Gel, bacterial culture, and FPLC protein purification is preferred.
