I know of one bad experience with a common refrigerator as it pertains to the
freezer.  The refrigerator was great for the 4 deg crystallization trials, but
the freezer had a "frost-free" cycle which was destroying protein and
chemicals.  The user was keeping lots of their sensitive items in the door and
front edge of the freezer, and in small volumes; they would heat up and get
destroyed.  Complaints were made for sime time before they realized the true
cause.

It was resoled by placing all small eppendorf tubes and vials in thicker
plastic boxes for the heat sink characteristics.

Subject: Re: [ccp4bb] please recommend a crystallization incubator

In fact, you can put plates in refrigerator. It is cheap and simple. Maybe the
temperature is not stable, but don't warry, acturaly, the dynamic temperature
is benifit to grow crystals. You can look for relational papers.

Of course, you can buy a incubator, which can control temperature from 4-60
degree. It is also cheap. It is about 3000CNY in Shanghai. Don't warry, many
people put their plates in incubator with a little vibration. In fact, it is
not very important.

hello everyone

can anyone recommend an affordable low temp. incubator that could be used for
crystallography?

we do not have cold room, so hope the incubator can go to 4 degree withouth too
much vibration

any size from 10 cubic ft -->20 cubic ft will be fine

any help is highly appreciated.
