Dear John,

there is also a special mailing list for CCP4MG issues - however, it seems not
to be used frequently... Just wanted to mention that there is one.
Regarding your problems:
I'm using CCP4MG (2.4.1) on several Windows7 (64 bit Prof.) machines and
everything works just fine; with the exception that (indeed) the python.exe
stops working sometimes. This only happened to me when dealing with complex
settings (like showing electron density, many different selections and
superimposed proteins in one session) but not when opening a coordinate file.
One thing I also noticed is that CCP4MG crashes when your system runs out of
free memory (RAM not HDD space!). I once made a movie in full HD and during
saving all the pictures, CCP4MG just overfilled my RAM (6GB) and crashed. I
finally was able to avoid this problem by separating the movie into different
parts and saving all the pictures stepwise.
Maybe you should check CCP4MG's memory usage on your system upon opening your
coordinate files.

Best

Matthias

> The symptoms when I try to use it, after an apparently ok installation, are:-
> The tool bar remains as feint text but still allows a drop down menu.
> Then trying to open a coordinate file (either from a folder or via a

> python.exe has stopped working.
> I would be grateful for any insights on this difficulty.
> Thank you,
