POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS
MOLECULAR BASIS OF INFECTIOUS DISEASE AND CANCER

INSTITUTE OF HUMAN VIROLOGY
UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

Applicants are sought to fill funded Postdoctoral Fellow positions to work on
interdisciplinary projects in the molecular basis of infectious disease and
cancer. These projects, in the laboratory of Dr. Eric J. Sundberg of the
Institute of Human Virology (IHV; www.ihv.org) at the University of Maryland
School of Medicine (UMSOM; http://medschool.umaryland.edu/), will focus on the
structural, energetic and functional dissection of disease pathogenesis in
HIV/AIDS, superantigen-mediated toxic shock syndrome, and viral oncology, as
well as the development of protein-based therapeutics and novel vaccines.

Requirements for this position include a Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular
biology, or a closely related discipline. Demonstrated capabilities with
molecular biophysics and protein engineering techniques including X-ray
crystallography, NMR spectroscopy, surface plasmon resonance analysis,
isothermal titration calorimetry and/or directed evolution, as well as the
ability to work within the context of a collaborative research group are
preferred.

The Sundberg laboratory is currently moving from the Boston Biomedical Research
Institute, where it has been since its inception in 2004, to IHV/UMSOM. IHV is
the first research center in the United States to combine the disciplines of
basic research, epidemiology and clinical research in a concerted effort to
speed the discovery of diagnostics and therapeutics for a wide variety of
chronic and deadly viral and immune disorders. UMSOM is America’s oldest public
medical school and, as measured in research dollars, the 6th largest public and
18th largest overall US medical school. More than 1,200 medical, graduate and
allied health students are enrolled at UMSOM and it is home to several hundred
postdoctoral research fellows.

Completed applications for these positions will include: (1) a curriculum
vitae; (2) a statement of research interests and experience, not to exceed two
pages; and (3) the names and contact information of three references. All files
should be sent as PDF files, electronically to: [email protected],
subject line “IHV postdoctoral position”. Review of completed applications will
begin immediately and will continue until the positions are filled.
