A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the Protein Structure Group at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. The focus of the project is the archaeal RNA polymerase subcomplex RpoEF and its interaction with target RNA (De Francisci et al., Environ. Microbiol. 2011 13:2039-55).

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be based at UNSW where we have in house facilities for molecular biology, protein expression, purification and characterisation. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will set up RNA screening via SELEX. We have access to fluorescence, SPR and ITC resources for characterisation of RNA-protein complexes. The laboratory is fully equipped with robotics for crystallisation and in house crystallographic data collection. We have regular access to synchrotron sources.

The first goal is to define RNA sequences that bind tightly to RpoEF via SELEX. This project is part of a wider collaboration with Professor Ricardo Cavicchioli (School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences) to investigate the molecular mechanism of cold adaptation in Antarctic archaea.

The candidate should have a strong background in biochemistry and molecular biology with skills in protein chemistry, RNA, structural biology and x-ray crystallography desirable.

This is a full time position, fixed term for two years.

Applicants should address the selection criteria found within the position description, in their online application.
