Details are provided below: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Research Associate Position in the UCL School of Pharmacy - Laboratory of Dr Gary Parkinson. UCL Reference: 1298701. Applicants are invited to apply for a Research Associate position in an IACR funded structure based drug discovery project aimed at characterising inhibitor binding sites that modulate protein dimerisation. The post is available from January 2013 and is funded for two years in the first instance. The applicant will generate STAT3 proteins suitable for structural studies, set up appropriate crystallisations, collect and interpret the resulting crystallographic data. Subsequent structural interpretations will be used to validate and guide the design and synthesis of new effective small molecule ligands. The candidate is expected to work collaboratively, being involved in all aspects of the projects wider aims to understand factors controlling SH2 dimerisation, STAT3 DNA binding and stability. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in an area closely related to Structural Biology. Experience in structural biology is essential with a hands-on knowledge of, biophysics, protein expression/purification, cloning and molecular biology techniques. A proficiency in X-ray crystallography and knowledge of macromolecular crystal growth are desirable. Full time position. the appointment will be on UCL Grade 7.
