The Philipps University of Marburg and the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial
Microbiology have recently established the center for Synthetic Microbiology,
SYNMIKRO (www.synmikro.com). Supported by the state of Hessen within its
excellence program LOEWE, the more than 30 research groups in SYNMIKRO focus on
basic aspects of synthetic biology on all levels of microbial function, ranging
from the development of regulatory circuits, genetic codes, and metabolic
pathways to the synthesis of new minimal cells and microbial communities. To
strengthen its activities in structural biology, SYNMIKRO seeks a:

Scientist / Protein Crystallographer

for its automated crystallization facility for biological macromolecules
(MarXtal). The position is available from now on for initially up to 31/12/2015
and will offer the possibility of further scientific qualification in the frame
of the assigned duties. Salary and benefits are according to a public service
position of the state of Hessen (TV-H E 13).

The position requires a PhD degree in biology or biochemistry. Candidates
document their expertise in protein biochemistry and their profound knowledge
in crystallization and protein structure determination by X-ray
crystallography. Experience in laboratory robotics or usage of synchrotron
sources is an advantage.

We provide support by a technician and encourage the development of independent
research projects. SYNMIKRO offers an international and interdisciplinary
environment at the intersection of the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial
Microbiology, the LOEWE Center for Synthetic Microbiology (SYNMIKRO) and the
Philipps-University of Marburg with over 30 research groups. The beautiful and
green city of Marburg offers a high quality of living in the heart of Germany.
