Postdoctoral research fellowship: Structural Biology of Telomere- and
Telomerase-associated complexes

Job Summary:
A postdoctoral position is available beginning Fall 2013 in the lab of
Jayakrishnan (JK) Nandakumar at the Department of Molecular, Cellular and
Developmental Biology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Our lab
studies the structure and function of telomeres and telomerase, which are
protein-nucleic acid complexes that help maintain the ends of chromosomes.
The current project involves the use of X-ray crystallography to solve the
three-dimensional structures of protein-nucleic acid complexes found at
chromosome ends.

Required Qualifications:
The candidates should hold a Ph. D. degree, and a have strong background in
molecular cloning and structural biology. Experience with protein expression
(in E. coli and preferably insect cells) and purification is required,
whereas those familiar with the reconstitution of protein-nucleic acid
complexes for crystallography are strongly encouraged to apply. The
applicant is expected not just to be involved in the crystallization aspect
of the project, but is also expected to collect data, process them and solve
crystal structures. Since we are a new lab, the candidate will have a strong
voice in the setting up of the Œwet¹ and computational sides of
crystallography in the lab. She or he will be assisted not only by the PI,
but also by the Center for Structural Biology (CSB) at the University of
Michigan at Ann Arbor, which provides facilities and training on almost
every aspect of crystallography. Additionally, since our lab is also
involved in several biochemical/enzymological and cell biological projects,
the candidate will also have the opportunity to expand her/his skillset
during her/his stay in the lab.

To Apply:
Interested applicants for the advertised position should send a PDF with CV,
a cover letter stating research interests and qualifications, and contact
information for three references to [email protected]. Any questions
regarding the project, lab, CSB, the university or the city of Ann Arbor may
also be sent to the above email address.

About Us:

voted as one of the best places to live and raise a family in the United
States. It offers to its residents excellent schools, a variety of sporting
and art/music activities, and well-acclaimed restaurants.

The University of Michigan is a non-discriminatory/affirmative action
employer.
