Assistant Researcher Position in Membrane Protein Structural Biology available
at Lund University, Sweden.

Type of employment: Limit of tenure, 1 year with possible extension for 1 year
Extent: 100 %
Location: Department of Experimental Medical Science, Lund University, Sweden
First day of employment: according to agreement
Official Records Number: MPA 2014/242

The mission of the Department of Experimental Medical Science at Lund
University is to perform molecular, cellular and integrative research at the
highest international level and to train a new generation of successful
scientists. We study biological processes that govern normal human bodily
functions that are involved in disease pathogenesis. The Membrane Protein
Structural Biology Group at the department works on the structural and
functional characterization of membrane proteins that are essential for human
health and highly attractive targets in the treatment of disease. The
overarching aim is to reveal the molecular principles and determinants of
transport processes across cellular membranes for these proteins. To this end,
we use a number of complementary techniques centered on X-ray crystallography
using the latest techniques within membrane protein structural biology to study
structure-function relationships.

An Assistant Researcher Position is now available in The Membrane Protein
Structural Biology Group. The research will be led by Dr. Pontus Gourdon and
targets membrane proteins of significance for transition metal homeostasis. The
tasks will include cloning, cell culturing, protein purification, functional
studies (in vivo and in vitro), crystallization and structure determination
using X-ray crystallography. The successful candidate will be working in close
collaboration with the team of Dr. Karin Lindkvist with access to the required
infrastructure for the project, including ample synchrotron beam time.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in protein biochemistry, structural biology or an
equivalent field (preference will be for candidates with a Ph.D. in membrane
protein crystallography awarded within the last five years) with experience in
protein production in bacterial, yeast or insect expression systems.

Informal inquiries to Dr. Pontus Gourdon ( [email protected] ). For more
information and submission of applications see
http://www.lunduniversity.lu.se/o.o.i.s?id=24914&Dnr=600805&Type=E . Closing
date: 8 April 2014.
