I would like to draw your attention to a well-paid senior Postdoc position in
my lab, in the field of membrane protein crystallography and X-FELS, as
announced at http://uio.easycruit.com/vacancy/1209189/64291?iso=no. The project
will be in collaboration with Christian Betzel and Henry Chapman, DESY.

Deadline: August 20th; Latest starting date: October 1st

Please note that I will not be available for questions from 30/7-17/8. In this
time, my colleague Daniel Burschowsky ([email protected]) is
happy to answer questions.

Department of Chemistry
Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Membrane Protein Crystallography

Position as postdoctoral research fellow (SKO 1352)available at the Department
of Chemistry<http://www.mn.uio.no/kjemi/english/>, University of Oslo.

The fellowship period is up to 3 years. Within the framework of the position,
duties may be assigned. The starting date is as soon as possible, and no later
than 01.10.2014. No one can be appointed for more than one fixed-term period at
the same institution.

Job/ project description
A postdoctoral research fellowship within the research area “Glycans in human
health and disease” is available at the Department of Chemistry. The project
will be in the field of membrane protein crystallography, with a focus on
protein-carbohydrate interactions of medically relevant systems. It fits well
within the Department’s and University’s Life Science strategy and is connected
to a consortium of glycobiology groups in the broader Oslo area
(http://www.mn.uio.no/ibv/english/research/groups/glyconor/), but also involves
strong international collaborations.

Further details concerning the project will be discussed and agreed on before
project start.

The work will be pursued in state-of-the-art laboratories in Oslo and Hamburg
(DESY) and involve data collection at the X-ray Free Electron Laser in
Stanford, in collaboration with Christian Betzel and Henry Chapman.

The candidate should be determined to enter a challenging project, like to work
independently, but also be a good team-player. She/he should preferentially
have experience in all aspects of protein crystallographic work, including
solid practical experience in protein purification and crystallization.
Experience with membrane proteins is a clear advantage. The candidate is
further expected to actively take part in the maintenance of the X-ray
equipment and crystallographic software.

Requirements/qualifications

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of
being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be
selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of
their class with respect to academic credentials.

The candidate must have a PhD or other corresponding education equivalent to a
Norwegian doctoral degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or other relevant
disciplines, with documented expertise in protein crystallography.

The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify
researchers for work in top academic positions within their disciplines.
