Research Scientist - Protein Biochemist (St. Louis, MO)-00VIT

Monsanto develops new proteins that deliver crop protection from insects,
crop tolerance to herbicides, enhanced yield, stress and disease tolerance
as cutting edge and multi-disciplinary endeavors. Monsanto is providing the
opportunity to a PhD level scientist to contribute toward the design and
understanding of protein function, biophysical properties, and structure,
in support of development of these new traits. The ideal candidate should
be a team oriented self-starter adept at integrating information from a
wide variety of sources, and one with a passion for using their skills to
drive new discoveries at the interfaces of biochemistry, entomology, and/or
plant biology. The top candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills
and proficiency with mass spectrometry of proteins and/or small molecules,
development of protein functional assays, a strong understanding of
protein-protein interactions, and methods to discover new interacting
partners.

*Required Education & Skills:*

• Minimum of a PhD in a related discipline
• Demonstrated experience in protein functional characterization and/or
enzymology
• Experience characterizing protein-protein or protein-nucleic acid
interactions
• Experience with mass spectrometry
• Understanding of basic kinetic methods
• Basic molecular biology skills
• Experience with protein expression and conventional purification
• Excellent experimental design, communication, and organizational skills

*Desired Education & Skills:*

• Experience with pore forming protein toxin biochemistry
• Experience with protein modeling and solving protein structures
