Hi,
I wanted to draw people’s attention to the research fellow position
available in my laboratory starting on January 1st 2015:You will study the structure and function of integral membrane proteins, including the Kv11.1 potassium channel in collaboration with Professor Asipu Sivaprasadarao. Your aim will be to determine the structure of this novel ion channel, and understand how the differences between it and the classic Kv1.2 channel explain why it promiscuously interacts with structurally unrelated drugs to cause cardiac side effects. The project combines production purification with crystallisation, crystallography to determine the structure and mechanism. In addition, you will have responsibility for driving other structural biology projects in the lab. You will work in the multidisciplinary School of Biomedical Sciences (SBMS), which includes biochemists and physicists, and as part of the Astbury Centre for Structural Molecular Biology. You will be supervised by Professor Adrian Goldman (SBMS). You will be a highly motivated individual with a strong basis in all aspects of structural biology from expression to structure determination, and you will for preference have experience in working with membrane proteins. You should either have a PhD (or be close to completion) in structural biology, biochemistry or a related discipline. You will have previous experience of protein cloning, expression and purification in E. coli and other systems, as well as demonstrated ability to solve protein structures by x-ray crystallography, EM or NMR. Experience using complementary techniques such as SAXS would be a plus. Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Adrian Goldman, tel +44 (0)113 343 8537, email [email protected] The link for applying is at: http://www.jobs.ac.uk/job/AJY448/research-fellow-structural-studies-of-integral-membrane-proteins/ Adrian Goldman, Ph.
