Dear all
News of a couple of upcoming events associated with ECM29 - note that the early
bird registration rate for ECM29 is only available until Thursday 23rd April.
(1) Following our successful event at ECM28 in Warwick, the European
Crystallographic Association's Special Interest Group in Crystallographic
Computing ("SIG9" or "ECACOMSIG") is organising a two day Computing Workshop on
Advanced Software Development for Crystallographers, in Duga Uvala, Croatia
between 20th - 22nd of August 2015. It will be associated with the European
Crystallographic Meeting (ECM29) in Rovinj, Croatia, which is about 40km away.
The Workshop will provide an opportunity for younger developers to meet and
engage with senior developers and also with their peers in Crystallographic
Methods development. It will be held over two full days (21st & 22nd August);
there will be an introductory lecture and "get-together" on the evening of 20th
August, so participants should plan to arrive on that afternoon. Provided there
is sufficient demand, transport will be provided (and included in the
registration fee) to ECM29 in Rovinj on the morning of 23rd August.
The Workshop will be open to a maximum of 40 applicants. A limited number of
bursaries will be available to assist with the cost of attendance.
Generous sponsorship has allowed us to set the registration fee (including
lunch and refreshments on 21st and 22nd August) to 100€, excluding
accommodation (which is available on a half-board basis at the Hotel Croatia,
the meeting venue, for 50€ a night).
Confirmed speakers include -
George Sheldrick - Georg-August-Universität, Göttingen, Germany
Eleanor Dodson - University of York, UK
Santosh Panjikar - Australian Synchrotron, Melbourne, Australia
Luc Bourhis - Bruker AXS, France
Kay Diederichs - Universität, Konstanz, Germany
Harry Powell - MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK
Andrea Thorn - MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK
Anders Madsen - University of Copenhagen, Denmark
Vincent Favre-Nicolin - CEA Grenoble, France
see the School website, http://sig9.ecanews.org/rovinj.html
(2) On behalf of the organisers, I'd like to advertise the Electron
Crystallography School (ECS2015) which will also be held in Duga Uvala, after
ECM29 - between 28th and 31st August. From their website
(http://www.blogs.uni-mainz.de/ecs2015) -
> The school intends to cover main directions of contemporary research in the
> area of electron crystallography. The lectures are designed to meet the needs
> and interests of participants with diverse background – materials science,
> physics, chemistry, geology and biology. The participation in the school is
> granted with one ECTS credit point.
