*Dear ccp4 enthusiasts,*
*Two positions in structural biology are available immediately in my lab at Brown University. Please see the ads below for more information.* *Thank you,* *Alexandra* *Research Assistant Position at Brown University, Rhode Island* The Department of Molecular Biology, Cell Biology and Biochemistry at Brown University (Providence, Rhode Island) is seeking a highly motivated individual to work as a Research Assistant in the laboratory of Dr. Alexandra Deaconescu. The Deaconescu Laboratory focuses on structural studies by X-ray crystallography, small-angle X-ray scattering and electron microscopy of protein-protein and protein-nucleic acid complexes, particularly those involved in DNA repair and transcriptional regulation. For examples of work in these areas, please see Deaconescu et al., *PNAS* (2012), Szyk et al, *Cell* (2014), Szyk et al., *NSMB* (2012) and Deaconescu et al., *TIBS* (2013). More information about the lab at: http://biology.brown.edu/faculty/profile.php?id=1379608523. The desired candidate will be responsible for performing routine lab work including media preparation, the preparation of solutions and stocks, cloning, large-scale protein expression, protein purification using an Akta chromatographic system, protein characterization using functional and biophysical methods (EMSAs, activity assays, circular dichroism, ITC), and protein crystallization. Additional responsibilities include performing general lab administration, which includes the organization and maintenance of lab databases and stocks, ordering, data entry and other duties as assigned. Applicant should be highly motivated with thorough, methodological and accurate work habits. The ideal candidate has a strong ability to multi-task, has good communication skills. *Qualifications* - Bachelor's degree in a biological science or chemistry is required. - Biological laboratory experience is required. Previous experience with molecular biology techniques (PCR, vector construction, nucleic acid extraction), protein expression, biochemistry (protein purification, enzyme assays, immunoblotting), protein crystallization, circular dichroism and isothermal titration calorimetry are highly desirable, but not required. Knowledge of diffraction data collection strategies and processing is desirable, but not required, and training in these areas will be provided if necessary. To apply, please send a CV, undergraduate transcript and contact information for three references to [email protected]. Write “technician candidate” in the subject line. Position is available immediately, but start date is flexible. Salary will be based on experience. *Postdoctoral Position in Structural Biology at Brown University, Rhode Island* The Deaconescu Lab is seeking a motivated, energetic and dedicated postdoctoral research associate. The laboratory's interest is the interplay between DNA repair and other cellular processes including transcription and chromatin remodeling, and is focused on elucidating the function and mechanochemistry of DNA-based motors using a combination of biochemical, biophysical and structural techniques. (e.g. X-Ray crystallography, small-angle X-ray scattering, transmission electron microscopy). A successful candidate should have the following qualifications: a Ph.D. in the field of Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or related field; an established track-record of publications in peer-reviewed journals; solid experience in the biochemistry of complex DNA-binding proteins (such as chromatin remodeling factors or DNA repair proteins), their purification from E.coli/yeast expression systems as well as their characterization using functional studies such as by isothermal titration calorimetry. Prior knowledge of crystallography would be a plus, but is not required. Must be highly motivated and work independently as well as in a team. Excellent spoken and written English are required. New Ph.D. graduates are encouraged to apply. Salary, starting date and project details are negotiable. For more information about the lab, visit http://www.brown.edu/research/labs/deaconescu/ Interested candidates should send a CV, one page research experience summary and contact information for three references to [email protected]. Position is available immediately. Please write Postdoctoral Candidate in the e-mail subject header. Brown University, an Ivy League school, is an EEO/AA employer and actively solicits applications from minorities and women. Brown University is located less than one hour away by train from Boston.
