Our group is looking for two highly motivated postdocs with competitive CVs
to apply for two different calls opened by the Spanish Ministry of Economy
and Competitiveness, 'Juan de la Cierva Incorporación' and 'Juan de la
Cierva Formación'. The aim of the contracts is to participate in a project
on the structural basis of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) regulation. Mitochondria
are at the crossroads of aging and of major health problems such as cancer,
diabetes, neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s
diseases. mtDNA and its regulation are altered in all these conditions. The
goal of the work is the structural characterization of mtDNA-regulatory
proteins, alone or in complexes with DNA, by X-ray crystallography.
Small-angle X-ray scattering and microscopy analysis might also be
considered.

The call is highly competitive and only candidates with *at least one
first-author paper published in a high-impact journal *can be considered. The
candidate should have a strong background in Structural Biology with good
expertise in cloning, protein purification, and macromolecular
crystallography. In addition, fluent use of English, a very positive and
highly motivated attitude towards research, and a collaborative attitude
with the rest of the research group members are important aspects that will
be considered. The requirements to participate in these calls are:

*Juan de la Cierva-Formación: *PhD thesis defended between *January* *1st
2016 and December 31st 2017*

*Juan de la Cierva Incorporación: *PhD thesis defended between
*January* *1st 2013
and December 31st 2015*

Our lab is at the Institute of Molecular Biology Barcelona, CSIC, located
at the premises of Barcelona Science Park, www.pcb.ub.edu. More
information about our projects, which are basically related to
mitochondrial proteins and mitochondrial DNA regulation, can be found at

The official selection of candidates is expected by June 2018, and the
contract is expected to be formalized by October 2018. For non-European
successful candidates, please consider that visa procedures can delay the
process by about 4-6 months after the official selection.

Interested candidates should send as soon as possible and *before* *January
7th, 2018* an e-mail with their CV together with a motivation letter and
contact details of two supervisors to [email protected]
